About this reel

The Shimano VANFORD 2500HG is constructed with an ultra-lightweight CI4+ body and a MagnumLite (MGL) Rotor, delivering incredibly low start-up inertia for instant response. Perfect for the New Zealand fishing scenario, this 2500-size powerhouse is ideal for flicking light soft baits at wary Snapper in the shallows or targeting large Trout in backcountry rivers. With its advanced water-resistant X-Protect technology, it handles both harsh saltwater flats and crisp freshwater lakes with ease.

  • CI4+ Body Construction – Provides a rigid yet incredibly lightweight foundation to reduce angler fatigue during long sessions.
  • MagnumLite (MGL) Rotor – Decreases rotational inertia for a lightning-fast response and ultra-smooth winding feel.
  • Cold-Forged HAGANE Gear – Ensures long-lasting durability and relentless power even when fighting aggressive fish.
  • X-Protect Technology – Utilises a water-repellent coating and labyrinth construction to keep harsh saltwater out of the internals.
  • Silent Drive System – Eliminates microscopic handle play and operational noise for a pure, seamless retrieval experience.
  • Long Stroke Spool – Increases your casting distance and improves line lay, perfect for flicking light lures.

Customer photo review of Shimano - VANFORD 2500HG

Smoother than my last relationship and twice as lucky! Picked up the Shimano Vanford 2500HG for chasing trout, and honestly, I'm starting to feel bad for the fish. It’s so light and buttery smooth I keep checking my rod just to make sure it's still there. First outing with it and the trout practically jumped ashore just to get a closer look at the drag. If you want a reel that makes you look like you actually know what you're doing, this is the one. 10/10! RIP to my bank account and local trout population. 🐟💨

A great little reel. Very smooth and extremely sturdy. Have had great success using it with softbait to catch some awesome snapper.
