WHO WE ARE...

Monster Fishing is a lure fishing shop in Northland, New Zealand. We have an 800 m² warehouse, a retail store with a 16-metre lure wall, and we possess a fairly serious obsession with Japanese tackle.

We buy a lot of gear direct from Japan -- from the people who design, test and make it.

WHY THAT MATTERS...

WHY WE IMPORT

Most tackle shops buy what the local distributor offers. We couldn't -- the majors weren't opening accounts in our region -- so we went direct to Japan instead.

That meant learning the hard way. Which makers matter. Which colours the Japanese anglers actually fish. Which sizes never leave the country. Years of buying trips, trade shows and conversations with the people who build this stuff.

It's slower and harder than ordering off a distributor's price list. It's also the only way to get the range we carry.

We’re more than just a tackle shop -- we’ve built an 800 m² warehouse in Ruakākā packed with premium fishing gear, ready to ship. Every order is picked, packed, and dispatched fast from our Northland HQ, so you can hit the water sooner.

Our warehouse is designed for express handling and same-day dispatch (for orders placed before 1pm AET), keeping anglers stocked and fishing without delay.

OLLIE

At the heart of our store is Ollie – a passionate light tackle fisherman and, we believe, New Zealand’s youngest fishing store owner. What he may lack in years, he more than makes up for in energy, fishing knowledge, and a sharp eye for the best gear on the market.

Ollie’s no stranger to e-commerce. He grew up behind the scenes of Mighty Ape — one of New Zealand’s most successful online retailers — and is now building his own business, focused on quality gear, sharp pricing, and excellent customer service.

Cho

Cho runs the show at our Ruakaka retail store and brings a wealth of fishing knowledge, retail experience, and good vibes to every customer interaction. Whether you're hunting Kingies or kitting out the kids for their first wharf mission, Cho’s got your back.
