How to fish this lure
The retrieve, the rig, and the colour Big Kev would tie on.
About this lure
The Blade Bomber is Hayabusa's bladed take on the classic madai slider head, adding flash and vibration to a style of lure that already does serious damage on New Zealand snapper. Fished on a slider or free-slide rig with a skirt and assist hooks, it works well drifting over foul and sandy patches for snapper, gurnard, kahawai and trevally, and the lighter weights can be rigged on a weedless hook for freshwater work. The spinning blade gives fish an extra reason to commit on a slow, steady wind.
- Spinning blade – Throws off vibration and light flash to pull fish in from a distance and trigger hesitant biters
- Madai-style head – Rigs with standard slider skirts and assist hooks with octopus trailers, so it slots straight into your existing kabura gear
- Five weights from 14g to 60g – Cover shallow estuary and harbour drifts through to deeper reef and current
- Six colours – Red Shrimp, Chilli Pepper, Double Orange, UV Coated Sardine, Pink & Glow and Chartreuse Gold for bright days, dirty water and deep drops
- Versatile rigging – Also fishes in freshwater with a Texas-rigged hook when you want vibration down low

Chilli PepperWarm flash with chrome blade to pull fish in low light or lightly coloured water.
Double OrangeWarm flash with chrome blade to pull fish in low light or lightly coloured water.
UV Coated SardineUV coating lifts this natural sardine match in overcast or slightly off-colour water.
Pink & GlowPink and glow combo works across conditions, holding visibility when the light drops.
Chartreuse GoldHigh-vis colour that stands out when the water is stained or the light is flat.
Which weight, and when
14 g
Ideal for shallow mid-water work (2-4 m) and lighter tackle; casts adequately and sinks slowly for prolonged water-column coverage.
21 g
Balanced choice for general mid-water (3-6 m) fishing; good casting distance and moderate sink rate.
28 g
Suits mid-range depths (4-8 m) and slightly stronger current; faster sink rate for deeper presentations.
40 g
Best for deeper mid-water (6-10 m) and windy conditions; rapid descent and extended casting range.
60 g
Maximum depth and distance option; use in strong current or when targeting the lower end of the mid-water zone (8-10 m).
